FRéJUS rail LINE INTERRUPTION in july 2019 – ARTICLE ON “LA LETTRE FERROVIAIRE
–
Fréjus rail connection (France-Italy): three weeks interruption last summer. What has been the impact on rail freight transport?
As Livio Ambrogio, President of Ambrogio Group, explains: “The use of alternative rail routes has not been actually possible, due to long delays and especially the costs, which almost doubled compared to usual costs.” Thus, the Italian intermodal operator, who runs 4 to 6 trains every week between Candiolo (Turin) and Mouguerre (Bayonne) via Modane, with a Mercitalia Rail traction in Italy and Fret SNCF in France, sent only two trains via Basel, Switzerland. During this interruption, the only real option left has been, in fact, the road.
